That trip to the dressing room is never fun, but it doesn't have to be as stressful as most tv ads make it out to be. The keys to making it a not-so-traumatic experience are to make sure you KNOW your body. Take it from someone who went from a size 36W to a size 14. . I've been through it all! So, when I saw this great little guide from Yahoo! I thought it was worth the time to re-organize their thoughts for the AVERAGE woman.
Warning: These pictures are straight from Yahoo! So, forgive me if they don't represent woman of the real world:
Boost a Smaller Bust

If you find yourself wishing you had a little more to work with on top, look for suits that have underwire, a little bit of padding, or ruffly details, all of which will create the illusion of a larger bust. I personally wish I had this problem and also wish I could wear a two-piece but I do KNOW women would would die to look like more than a 12-year old boy. . .and these rules do apply.
Tame a Tummy

For those of us who have a little bit more than we’d like around the midsection, a swimsuit that takes attention away from the tummy—via an interesting neckline or other eye-attracting details—is the way to go. WARNING: Watch out that you don't go too old! I see girls everywhere who make the tragic mistake of following this rule by buying the granny suits. You can find attractive swimsuits, but you might have to do shopping in a catalog or somewhere OTHER than a box store to find the right fit. They are out there. . .but you don't want to find the right cut and the wrong look!
Keep the Girls in Line

For women with larger breasts, finding a flattering top that fits can be difficult. To make the process easier, look for tops specifically made for larger-breasted ladies. Make sure you’re getting lots of support from the fabric (no skimpy triangle bikinis!) and look for thicker straps on halter and underwire designs.
OTHER HINTS:
I've got the HIPS FROM HELL and the THIGHS FROM THE DEVIL HIMSELF. There is not much to do but just live with them. I've tried the skirts, the little shorts and there isn't much that will hide the really bad flaws. Here is what you do when you've done all you can with the suit you have:
Wear it. Live it. Have FUN. Forget it! I leared at 405 lbs that there will always be someone at the beach that is worse looking than you! Even after losing 205 lbs, I still have body issues! In the end, Just carry yourself well, feel good knowing that you look the best you possibly can, you are tasteful and then: have a GREAT time. THAT is a successful outfit.
