EAT YOUR BREAKFAST!

It seems like EVERYONE says that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we've heard it for years, but after all this talk, why is that Americans are not listening?  New studies show that Americans are still getting fatter and fatter and one of the main reasons is we are STILL not eating our breakfast.

Many experts and doctors have even dropped any restrictions on WHAT we eat for breakfast and are just begging us to eat ANYTHING for breakfast becuase it is THAT important for a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Katherine Zeratsky says regulary eating a healthy breakfast will help you with your weight-loss goals and, if you are trying to get your kids into good-eating habits, it's really important to get them eating breakfast now.  Here are some of the reminders she has about the first meal of the day from www.mayoclinic.com:

  • Eating breakfast reduces your hunger later in the day, making it easier to avoid overeating. When you skip breakfast, you may feel ravenous later and be tempted to reach for a quick fix, such as candy from the vending machine. In addition, prolonged fasting — which occurs when you skip breakfast — can increase your body's insulin response, which in turn increases fat storage and weight gain. In fact, skipping breakfast actually increases your risk of obesity.
  • Eating breakfast gets you on track to make healthy choices all day. People who eat breakfast regularly tend to eat a healthier diet — one that is more nutritious and lower in fat. When you skip breakfast, you're more likely to skip fruits and vegetables the rest of the day too.
  • Eating breakfast gives you energy, increasing your physical activity during the day. A healthy breakfast refuels your body and replenishes the glycogen stores that supply blood sugar (glucose). Skipping breakfast is associated with decreased physical activity.

Keeping your life in balance starts every day the first thing in the morning.  Even if you work the third shift and your morning starts at 2pm, that first meal of the day starts your body's clock, so don't let it down!  Get your motabolism in motion by eating a good and healthy breakfast!  Don't skimp and don't skip!
